Panel Mount SSR for Plastic Injection Molding Machines
Precise, high-duty-cycle switching for barrel zone heaters, hot runners, nozzles and platens on plastic injection moulding machines. Omron and Carlo Gavazzi panel-mount SSRs with correctly sized heatsinks, in stock across India.
Where SSRs Are Used on an IMM
- Barrel zone heaters β 3 to 6 zones from feed throat to nozzle.
- Hot runner manifolds β multiple cavity zones with individual PID loops.
- Nozzle tip heaters β fast response required, ideal for SSR switching.
- Mould / platen heating β for engineering plastics and thin-wall parts.
- Hopper dryers β air heater switching for material drying.

Sizing Guide for IMM Zones
| Typical Zone Load | 15β40A per barrel zone at 230/415V. |
|---|---|
| SSR Rating | Choose 2Γ load current β e.g. 40A SSR for a 20A zone. |
| Heatsink | Individual heatsink per SSR, 1 Β°C/W or better. |
| Panel Cooling | Filtered fan or A/C unit inside control cabinet. |
| Protection | Semiconductor fuse per SSR line. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can one SSR control multiple barrel zones?
No. Each PID loop needs its own SSR so zones can be tuned and cycled independently.
Which SSR suits a 20A barrel zone at 230V?
Omron G3NA-240B or Carlo Gavazzi RM1A23D50 with a 1 Β°C/W heatsink is a proven combination.
Do you supply retrofit kits for older IMMs?
Yes, we can supply SSR + heatsink + fuse combinations to replace ageing contactors on Windsor, L&T, Ferromatik, Milacron and imported IMMs.
Any special considerations for hot runner control?
Hot runners cycle very frequently; use zero-cross SSRs with generous heatsinks and a semiconductor fuse per zone for the longest field life.
