Trumen LMC Capacitance Level Switch: Rod and Rope Probes for Any Tank
One sensing principle for water, oil, slurry, feed and powder β even when material sticks to the probe.
The Trumen LMC measures the capacitance between its probe and the vessel. Air has a dielectric constant of 1; almost every process material is higher. When material reaches the probe the capacitance rises and the switch operates. An active shield ignores coating on the probe, which is why the LMC is chosen for sticky and viscous products.

What the LMC Can Sense
Conductive liquids
Water, milk, effluent and chemicals. An insulated probe is used so the conductive liquid does not short the measurement.
Non-conductive liquids
Diesel, lube and edible oils, solvents and paints. Lower dielectric values need a longer probe or more sensitivity.
Powders and granules
Animal feed, rice, soya, dye powder and milk powder in bins and hoppers β including products that coat the probe.
Rod or Rope Probe?

Setting Up an LMC on Site
- Install and wire. Earth the vessel and the switch housing well; capacitance measurement is referenced to the tank wall.
- Adjust with the probe uncovered. With the tank below the probe, turn the sensitivity until the output just switches, then back off slightly.
- Check with material. Raise the level (or dip the probe) and confirm the switch operates with margin.
- Set fail-safe. Maximum fail-safe for high alarms, minimum fail-safe for low alarms.
- Set the switching delay. Use the delay DIP settings to ride through splashing, agitation or powder surges.
Trumen LMC Capacitance Switch FAQs
What does build-up compensation mean?
An active shield on the probe cancels the effect of material coating the probe, so the switch does not stay βcoveredβ after the level falls.
Can one LMC be used for liquids and powders?
Yes, the same principle works for both. Sensitivity is set on site to suit the materialβs dielectric constant.
What is the minimum dielectric constant?
Materials above about 2 can be detected. Very low values, such as some light plastics, need a longer probe or a fork switch instead.
When should I choose capacitance over a vibrating fork?
Choose the LMC for sticky or viscous products, long insertions and tall silos. Choose a fork when you want no adjustment at all.
Is a rope probe suitable for a 15 m silo?
Yes, rope probes are available up to 20 m and are the usual choice for low-level alarms in tall silos.
Do you provide installation help?
Yes. Our engineers can advise on probe length, mounting and sensitivity setting by phone or WhatsApp.
