The Micro Detectors AE6/AP-3A is a inductive proximity sensor.

Because there are no moving parts and nothing touches the target, it outlasts mechanical limit switches in dusty, wet and high-cycle positions. Two details decide whether a given part will work in your machine: the sensing distance, which is quoted for mild steel and reduces for aluminium, brass and stainless; and whether the sensor is flush (shielded) — mountable level with surrounding metal — or non-flush (unshielded), which reaches further but needs a clear zone around the face.
