The Tri-Tronics RSRC-1 is a retroreflective photoelectric sensor built specifically for detecting clear and transparent objects — glass and PET bottles, film, and clear packaging — which defeat ordinary photoelectric sensors because so little light is reflected or blocked.
It works on coaxial polarised reflection: the emitted beam is polarised, and the receiver accepts only light whose polarisation has been rotated by the prism reflector. A shiny or transparent object in the path changes the returned light enough to trigger reliably, while a glossy surface behind the target cannot be mistaken for the reflector.
Both NPN and PNP outputs are provided, so it suits either PLC input type without changing the part.
