The Tri-Tronics LER is a label sensor with PNP output.
A label sensor detects the gap between labels on a backing web so a labelling machine knows when to dispense. The job is harder than it sounds: the label and its liner differ by a fraction of a millimetre, and clear labels on clear liner give almost no optical difference at all. Fork geometry solves the alignment problem by holding emitter and receiver in fixed opposition with the web running between them; transparent labels usually need an ultrasonic or specially tuned optical head.
