What a sensor junction box does
On a machine with a dozen proximity or photoelectric sensors, wiring each one individually back to the PLC means a dozen cable runs through the drag chain and a dozen terminal sets in the panel. A junction box replaces that with one multi-core homerun: each sensor plugs into an M12 port on the box with a short cordset, and a single cable carries every signal back.
The practical gains are the ones maintenance teams notice. A failed sensor is unplugged and swapped without touching the panel. The wiring is documented by the port number rather than by wire colour. And the cable count through the moving parts of the machine drops sharply, which is where most intermittent faults begin.

The code reads straightforwardly: VXT-JB-M12 is the family and connector thread, 04D / 06D / 08D / 10D is the number of M12 ports, and the trailing 02M / 05M / 10M is the length of the fixed homerun cable. Choose the homerun length by the distance from the machine to the panel, and the port count by the number of sensors plus at least one spare.
Specifying a junction box
Count the ports properly
Add up the sensors on that section of the machine and go one size up. A spare port costs very little now and saves rewiring the whole box when a sensor is added later.
Measure the homerun
The cable is fixed, not field-terminated, so the length has to be right. Measure the real route through the drag chain and trunking, not the straight line.
Check the sensor outputs
All the sensors on one box should share the same output type. Mixing PNP and NPN devices on a single multi-core is the most common wiring mistake we are asked about.
Mind the mounting
Position the box where a technician can reach every port without removing a guard, otherwise the maintenance benefit disappears.
