Datalogic Matrix 830 — Product Overview
The Datalogic Matrix 830 is a high resolution fixed industrial reader for applications where one camera has to cover a wide conveyor and still resolve a small code. Its 6000 × 2660 pixel sensor (16 MP) at 30 frames per second delivers a 700 – 1100 mm horizontal field of view with a 310 – 510 mm vertical field, over a 600 – 2000 mm reading distance.
The wide, low aspect ratio sensor is deliberate: on a belt, the useful image is a strip, not a square, so the pixels are placed where the parcels actually are. Optics are liquid lens in 16 mm and 25 mm focal lengths, with a 300 – 600 mm depth of field and white illumination.
The Matrix 830 reads 1D, 2D, stacked, postal and DPM codes, grades code quality to ISO/IEC 15416, ISO/IEC 16022 / 18004 and ISO/IEC 29158 (AIM DPM), and carries a dual laser aimer, Green Spot good read feedback, anti sulphur protection and IP65 sealing. Units are combined into multi side reading stations with Datalogic SyncNet4 technology in primary/secondary or Ethernet point to point mode, and the reader offers 3 digital inputs and 2 digital outputs with Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP and RS232 interfaces.

Why Engineers Specify the Datalogic Matrix 830
The differentiators Datalogic publishes for this class, and what each one is worth on the line.
| Area | Datalogic advantage | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor Resolution | Highest Resolution | it can capture finer details across a wider field of view. This improves decoding performance, especially for small, dense, or multiple barcodes. |
| Code Types Supported | Capable to scan all Symbologies & DPM | provides maximum flexibility and reliability across a wide range of industrial applications. |
| Field of View (FOV) | Highest FOV | can capture a larger area in a single image. This allows multiple barcodes without moving the scanner or the product. |
| Depth of Field (DOF) | Highest DOF | Can read barcodes over large range of distance without requiring refocus |
| Green Spot Technology | Green spot technology | Easy to visualise Barcode scanned |
| Grading Standards | Code grading available | Identifies poor-quality printed or laser-marked codes before products leave the factory |
| Hardware Special Features | Anti sulphur | Longer scanner lifespan in harsh environments |
| Operating Temperature | Highest operating temperature | can work reliably in hot industrial environments without performance degradation or failure. |
| Connectivity Modes | two connectivity modes | it provides greater flexibility for building multi-scanner systems and simplifies integration into automation applications. |
| User Interface / Feedback | > 360-degree bezel feedback technology | Visible from all angles. Operators can instantly see scan status without changing position |

How to Confirm a True Equivalent
Six checks that decide whether an alternative reader is genuinely equivalent for your line.
- ApplicationDoes the alternative reader actually cover your code type, marking process, substrate and surface finish? A reader that matches on paper can still fail on a low-contrast laser mark.
- SpecificationsCompare sensor resolution, field of view, depth of field and frame rate at your real working distance — not at the manufacturer's best case.
- InterfaceCheck the fieldbus and protocol list against your PLC or line controller: PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, Modbus, RS232 and OPC UA support all differ between brands.
- MountingHousing dimensions, connector orientation, cable exit and bracket pattern decide whether a swap is a bolt-on or a panel redesign.
- PerformanceValidate the achieved read rate on your own sample parts at line speed, not on a demonstration code.
- CompatibilityConfirm configuration software, licensing, spare parts availability, and whether your maintenance team already holds the tooling and training for that brand.
Typical Applications
Transportation and logistics, distribution and retail, and manufacturing traceability — typically wide belt sortation, cross belt sorters and multi side reading tunnels.
