Datalogic Matrix 930 — Product Overview

The Datalogic Matrix 930 is the top of the Matrix range: an 8000 × 3500 pixel (28 MP) fixed industrial reader at 30 frames per second, intended for the widest belts and the tallest reading tunnels in transportation, logistics, distribution and retail.

It covers an 800 – 2400 mm reading distance with a 600 – 1000 mm depth of field, and a field of view that reaches 1000 – 1700 mm horizontally. Optics are liquid lens in 25 mm and 35 mm focal lengths with white illumination. Where a Matrix 830 would need two readers to cover a belt at a given code resolution, a single Matrix 930 will often do it — which is usually where the commercial case for the higher resolution sensor is made.

It reads 1D, 2D, stacked, postal and DPM codes, grades code quality to ISO/IEC 15416, ISO/IEC 16022 / 18004 and ISO/IEC 29158 (AIM DPM), and carries a dual laser aimer, Green Spot feedback, anti sulphur protection and IP65 sealing. Multi reader stations are built with Datalogic SyncNet4 in primary/secondary or Ethernet point to point mode, with 3 digital inputs, 2 digital outputs and Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP and RS232 interfaces.

Equivalent Models

Alternative readers in the same class from Cognex, Keyence, Zebra — shown underneath the Datalogic Matrix 930 as comparable options, not as certified replacements.

Please read before you substitute. The models below are presented as comparable alternatives in the same resolution and application class. They are not claimed to be technically interchangeable with the Datalogic Matrix 930 in every application. Final equivalence must be confirmed against your actual application, full specification, communication interface, mounting and optical geometry, achieved read rate on your own samples, and compatibility with your existing controls, software and spares. Where a project is safety-, regulatory- or validation-critical, run a sample trial before you standardise.

How to Confirm a True Equivalent

Six checks that decide whether an alternative reader is genuinely equivalent for your line.

  • ApplicationDoes the alternative reader actually cover your code type, marking process, substrate and surface finish? A reader that matches on paper can still fail on a low-contrast laser mark.
  • SpecificationsCompare sensor resolution, field of view, depth of field and frame rate at your real working distance — not at the manufacturer's best case.
  • InterfaceCheck the fieldbus and protocol list against your PLC or line controller: PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, Modbus, RS232 and OPC UA support all differ between brands.
  • MountingHousing dimensions, connector orientation, cable exit and bracket pattern decide whether a swap is a bolt-on or a panel redesign.
  • PerformanceValidate the achieved read rate on your own sample parts at line speed, not on a demonstration code.
  • CompatibilityConfirm configuration software, licensing, spare parts availability, and whether your maintenance team already holds the tooling and training for that brand.

Typical Applications

Transportation and logistics, distribution and retail, and manufacturing traceability — wide belt sortation, high throughput parcel tunnels and multi side reading stations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Matrix 930 differ from the Matrix 830?
The Matrix 930 uses an 8000 × 3500 (28 MP) sensor against the Matrix 830's 6000 × 2660 (16 MP), works over 800 – 2400 mm instead of 600 – 2000 mm, offers a 600 – 1000 mm depth of field instead of 300 – 600 mm, and uses 25 / 35 mm lenses instead of 16 / 25 mm. Everything else — code types, grading, SyncNet4, IP65, I/O count — is common to both.
When is 28 MP actually justified?
When the belt is wide enough or the codes small enough that a 16 MP reader would need to be doubled up. One Matrix 930 replacing two lower resolution readers usually wins on mounting, cabling, commissioning and spares as well as on hardware cost.
Can the Matrix 930 be used in a multi side reading tunnel?
Yes. Datalogic SyncNet4 technology consolidates several readers into one logical station using primary/secondary or Ethernet point to point connectivity, which is the standard way top, side and bottom reading positions are combined.
What are the equivalent models to the Matrix 930?
The nearest alternatives are the Keyence SR-5000W and SR-5000X, the Cognex DataMan 580 and the Zebra FS80. Note that published resolutions in this group range from roughly 9 MP to 16.8 MP, so at 28 MP the Matrix 930 sits at the top of the class rather than mid pack.
